Tears of a clown
Dingle Fingle started his clowning career at the famous Blackpool Tower Circus.
Given the golden opportunity to attend a clown school with a view to getting employment Stephen set off to Blackpool for the ‘Call Up For The Clowns’.
Having no previous performance experience Stephen took his unicycle and created a routine from scratch that wowed the judges in the auditions and gave him a place on the weeks course.
It was an intensive very enjoyable week. From here on in Stephen’s vocation was decided.
Training along side Master Clown Grimble (Tommy Fossett) and veteran Ring Master Norman Barrett MBE stephen was in good hands. The circus artistes were also fabulous and encouraging. He is still in contact with some of those artistes today.
Dingle Fingle Tears of a clown?
It was nearly tears of a clown when Stephen didn’t get a job at the famous Tower Circus situated underneath the Blackpool Tower. Unflumuxed by the rejection he didn’t give up. Instead he went and banged on Phillip Gandeys door who gave him the job in Gandeys Circus “Northern Englands Greatest Touring Circus”. It was a great apprenticeship so to speak and taught me lots of valuable lessons about the business of show.
You can see the press clipping below where he was given his certificate of attendance and told on yer unicyle so to speak!
Tears of a clown or words for the press you decide?
